Data Entry
Alphanumeric and numeric keypads are made available for directly entering data (e.g., waypoint identifiers, barometric minimum descent altitude) into the system. In some instances, such as when entering an identifier, the system's FastFind function will try to predict the identifier using predictive logic based on the characters being entered and current location. In these cases, if the desired identifier appears at the bottom of the kyepad window, touch it to confirm the entry without entering the rest of the identifier manually. The pilot also has the option to use the DCK to enter data by using the inner knob to change the character and the outer knob to advance to the next character in the data field. Push the DCK to confirm the entry.
The alphanumeric keypad layout will have alphanumeric keys together in one display. Refer to the Flight Management Section for details on using this flight planning alphanumeric keypad for route (waypoint and airway) entry. All other functions requiring a keypad will utilize keypads that display alphabetic or numeric keys separately.

Besides character-by-character data entry, the system also provides a shortcut for entering waypoint identifiers. Touching the Find Button accesses four different lists of waypoint identifiers for quick selection: Recent, Nearest, Flight Plan (if active flight plan waypoints are available), and a Favorite waypoints list. In addition, the system provides the ability to search by facility name or by city. The system will automatically fill in the identifier, facility, and city fields with the information for the selected waypoint.
As a waypoint identifier is being entered the 'Fast Find' function will populate waypoints below the alphanumeric keyboard to allow for quick selection of nearby waypoints that begin with the same characters.
When an identifier has been entered and multiple waypoints exist with that same identifier, the Find Button is replaced with a Select Duplicate Button. Touching this Select Duplicate Button will open a list of all waypoint duplicates.
