The Runway Occupancy Awareness (ROA) function is an extension of the ADS-B traffic function and will be active when ADS-B IN is enabled and Surface Indications and Alerts (SURF IA) is not inhibited in the system. The ROA function is available when ownship is on or near a runway with a hard surface and served by a precision instrument approach. The ownship can be considered near a runway when located on the surface within 1500 ft of a runway or airborne within 3 NM of the runway threshold and below 1000 ft above field elevation. The ROA function uses the Navigation and SafeTaxi^® databases for airport and runway data.
