ROA Indications and Alerts

The system generates three types of ROA indications and alerts as follows:

Traffic Indication (TI) — There is no immediate collision hazard between traffic and ownship, however, a high-speed traffic collision hazard could develop on the runway.
Runway Status Indication (RSI) — A high-speed traffic collision hazard would result if the ownship enters a runway, attempts to takeoff on a runway, or attempts to land on a runway.
Runway Caution Indication — An amber Caution Level Alert on the PFW and the traffic map when a runway collision hazard exists.

The system will provide an amber Caution Level Alert on the PFW and the traffic map when a runway collision hazard exists where traffic and ownship are converging at high speed and immediate flight crew awareness of the conflict is required. The aural voice alert “Traffic Runway” will include the specific runway number (ex.“Traffic Runway 01”). Caution alerts are provided when either ownship taxi speed is above 30 KIAS or other participating traffic taxi speed is above 40 KIAS and a collision risk is expected to occur on a runway within 35 seconds. ROA Alerts are suppressed during takeoff when ownship has reached a ground speed greater than 60 KIAS or GPS ground speed (whichever is higher).

For single pilot aircraft the 'Split COM' function will remove aural alerts from the passenger and co-pilot headsets.

For runways where Land and Hold Short Operations (LAHSO) are in effect, the system will not indicate a caution alert as the result of a LAHSO operation where ownship or crossing traffic has not crossed the LAHSO hold line. The system will activate LAHSO suppression automatically when a LAHSO hold line has been located on ownship’s runway or a runway that intersects with ownship’s runway. A LAHSO annunciation will appear on the traffic map showing “on” or “off”, see the following figure for an example.

The ROA function can be manually inhibited on the 'Inhibits' Window using the Quick Actions Tab in the 'Apps' Window.

When a ROA Indication or Alert (IA) is generated, the system will display a symbol on the MFW 'Traffic' Map or SafeTaxi^® Diagram. The flight ID and ground speed will be displayed with the TI or RSI traffic ROA symbol. Traffic symbol examples are shown in the following table.
