When the pilot enables the HSI Map, the HSI is formatted to show a navigation map on the rotating compass card. The current map range is displayed in nautical miles to the upper left side of the HSI. Auto zoom allows the system to change the map display range to the smallest range clearly showing the active waypoint. Auto zoom can be overridden at any time, and remains until the active waypoint changes, a terrain or traffic alert occurs, the aircraft takes off, or the manual override times out. To adjust the map range touch two fingers anywhere within the HSI and move them apart to decrease range or pinch using two fingers to increase range, or use a single finger to swipe up or down to increase or decrease HSI range. ‘Autozoom’ can be enabled and disabled and the ‘Minimum Zoom’ and ‘Maximum Zoom’ can be adjusted in the ‘Map Settings’ Menu for the display.

The pilot also has the option to toggle CDI, Terrain, Traffic, Weather, or Topographical (Topo) displays on or off on the ‘Primary Flight Window’ Settings. The basemap is the map layer that makes up the background of the HSI Map. The ‘Topo Basemap’ option gives the pilot a topographical map option. All symbology on the HSI map reflects the settings set in the 'Map Settings', accessed using the MENU Softkey while the 'Map' Application Page is open on the MFW.

If at any point the TAWS system reports an obstacle caution or warning, the HSI will automatically transfer to the HSI Map setting to present the obstacle or terrain in question. This switch in display will be accompanied by an alert below the HSI. Refer to Terrain Avoidance and Warning System in the Hazard Avoidance Section for more details.
