Glide Range Indications
If any aircraft configuration changes are made (e.g., flaps, gear), it may take up to 30 seconds for the system to determine the new glide ratio.
The Glide Range provides two types of indications on the moving map, a Range Ring and Best Glide Airport indication. These indications are enabled individually or concurrently in the Map Settings. The Range Ring is displayed in cyan and is based on the configured glide ratio, terrain, obstacles, and winds (Datalink winds aloft are the primary source for computing glide range, when not available, the secondary source for glide range effected by wind is the FMS). The Range Ring also takes into account the increased descent rate in a turn. When Smart Glide is enabled the cyan ring is replaced with an amber ring, the system begins to measure the actual real-time glide ratio and updates the Range Ring accordingly. This is indicated by a change in the Range Ring shape and size.

The Best Glide Airport indication provides situational awareness on the 'Map' Application page with chevrons connecting the aircraft's location to the nearest appropriate airport within the Range Ring. A bearing pointer can also be set to indicate the direction to the Best Glide Airport (for more information on bearing pointers refer to the discussion in Flight instruments on Bearing Pointers. The 'Nearest' Application page will provide a green "Glide" indication specifying if an airport is within glide range. The systems identified Best Glide Airport is highlighted with a green box around the waypoint icon as seen in the figure below.
