Distance Remaining Callouts
SurfaceWatch™ aural/visual indications may not be aligned with physical runway distance remaining markers.
For single pilot aircraft the 'Split COM' function will remove aural alerts from the passenger and co-pilot headsets.
Per AC 150/5340-18F Paragraph 22.a, the runway distance remaining sign placement may be adjusted to account for excess length beyond whole number multiples of 1000 feet and for placement conflicts with other airport elements (such as runway/taxiway intersections). Thus, distance remaining callouts issued by SurfaceWatch may occur at a location other than the associated distance remaining sign.
Distance remaining is calculated based on the current aircraft position relative to the opposite runway endpoint along the runway centerline based on the runway position information contained in the Navigation Database.
With rejected takeoff or during landing rollout, distance remaining voice callouts are issued for the remaining runway distances of 5,000’, 4,000’, 3,000’, 2,000’, 1,000’, and 500’. Distance remaining callouts will be issued during rejected-takeoff and landing-rollout phases of flight.
