The vertical situation display provides a visual indication of the margin available to get to the landing location. If the airplane symbol is higher than the depicted "Too Low" zone, the airplane is higher than necessary to get to the landing zone. If the airplane symbol is lower than the top of the "Too Low" zone, the aircraft may not be high enough to get to the selected landing location (the pilot should be looking for an off-airport landing).
