Activating an Approach
The system automatically activates the approach when the IAF or any other waypoint in the approach procedure becomes the active waypoint in the flight plan. If an approach frequency is available, it is automatically loaded when the approach is activated. It is also possible for the pilot to activate the approach manually, at any time. See the following table for approach activation information:
|
Selection Method |
Changes to the Flight Plan |
|---|---|
|
None (Automatic) |
IAF (or first approach waypoint) becomes the active waypoint. Automatic waypoint sequencing from the enroute or arrival segments to the approach segment occurs, and the approach is automatically activated. |
|
Flight Plan > Approach > Activate Approach |
Direct-to the IAF (or first approach waypoint) becomes active. Direct-to leg from aircraft current position to the first approach waypoint is activated (previously active leg or approach guidance is terminated). |
|
Flight Plan > Approach > Activate Vectors to Final |
Inbound course to the FAF waypoint becomes the active leg. Approach waypoints before the FAF and aligned with the final approach course are included in the flight plan list, but waypoint sequencing will not occur until the inbound course is intercepted. |
