Visual Approaches
The system provides a visual approach feature. Unlike instrument approaches, visual approaches are not defined in the navigation database. Instead, the system calculates the lateral and vertical path for the chosen runway and creates visual approach waypoints based on runway position and course as specified in the navigation database. Visual approaches may be loaded for either a published airport or a User Airport. For visual approaches, the pilot is responsible for avoiding terrain, obstacles and traffic.
The charts database may contain Charted Visual Flight Procedures (CVFPs) for certain airports. CVFPs follow a precise prescribed path and are classified as Instrument Approach Procedures (IAPs). See the Charts section in Additional Features for more information on Charts.
The system allows for Straight-In Visual Approaches, where the system will place a final approach fix (FAF). The FAF will automatically be generated one mile from the runway. The pilot may alter the distance, if desired, so long as the disatnce falls within the allowable limits for that distance.
