For altitude awareness, a Minimum Altitude Alert based on barometric (‘BARO MIN’), temperature compensated (‘TEMP MIN’), or radio (radar) altitude (‘RA MIN’) (optional) can be set at any time during a flight. When active, the altitude setting is displayed as an indicator button on the bottom portion of the Altimeter with a bug at the corresponding altitude on the Altimeter (once the altitude is within the visible range of the tape). While loading procedures into the Flight Management System (FMS), the option to set a Minimum Altitude Alert is also available.

When the alert has been set the bug that appears on the altimeter will appear in cyan. When the aircraft descends within 100 feet of the set alert the bug on the altimeter and the data in the minimums datafield button will turn white. Once the aircraft reaches the alert altitude, the bug and text turn amber and the voice alert, “Minimums Minimums” is heard.

Alerting is inhibited while the aircraft is on the ground and until the aircraft reaches 150 feet above the setting for the alert. If the aircraft proceeds to climb after having reached the alert settings, once it reaches 50 feet above the setting, alerting is disabled. The alerting altitude is synchronized on both PFWs. The function is reset (set to ‘Off’) when the power is cycled or another approach is activated.
