Pairing Your Phone and Activating the Device

WARNING

Before you can use the inReach® features of your satellite communicator, including messaging, SOS, tracking, and inReach weather, you must have an active satellite subscription. You must have a valid, unique phone number that can receive a text message to complete activation and pairing with the Earthmate® app. VOIP numbers are not supported. Always test your satellite communicator outdoors before using it on a trip.

  1. From the app store on your phone, install and open the Earthmate app.
  2. Place the inReach device and your phone within 3 m (10 ft.) of each other.
  3. From the main menu, select Setup > Bluetooth > Pair Device.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions in the Earthmate app to complete the pairing process and activate a subscription service plan.
  5. Go outdoors to an open area with a clear view of the sky, and point the antenna on the device toward the sky for optimal performance.
  6. Wait while the device communicates with the Iridium® satellite network.
    NOTE: It may take up to 20 minutes to activate your device. The device must send and receive several messages, which takes longer than sending a single message during regular use. Your device should remain outdoors until activation completes.

After the devices are paired, they connect automatically when they are turned on and within range.
