You can switch between topographic, OpenStreetMap, aerial imagery, and road map types using the button in the upper-left corner of the map.

The map types also change automatically as you zoom in, if you reach the limits of a specific map type.

If you switch to a map type but are zoomed in too far for that type, the map automatically zooms out.
