Replacing the Lower Gas Spring
- Lock the trolling motor into the stowed position.
-
Using a #2 Phillips screwdriver,
remove the screws that secure the base of the gas spring to the lower link of
the mount.

-
Lift the base of the gas spring off the lower link, and pull it slightly away
from the propeller drive motor.
The shaft stabilizer on the other end of the gas spring pivots up and away from the lower link, exposing the gas spring pin.
- Using a #0 Phillips screwdriver, remove the set screw that secures the gas spring pin to the shaft stabilizer.
-
Remove the gas spring pin from
the shaft stabilizer.

TIP: You can push the gas spring pin out from the other side using the long end of a hex key or a thin screwdriver. - Remove the gas spring from the lower link.
- Place the arm of the new gas spring in the shaft stabilizer.
- Insert the gas spring pin fully into the shaft stabilizer, through the arm of the new gas spring.
- Install the set screw in the shaft stabilizer to secure the gas spring pin.
-
Place the base of the gas spring
on the lower link of the mount so that the bent tip of the safety rod fits in
the hole on the base of the gas spring.
CAUTION
If you must rotate the gas spring so the base aligns with the mount, rotate the spring in a clockwise direction only. Rotating the gas spring in a counter-clockwise direction may loosen the fittings, potentially leading to a premature failure of the gas spring, which could lead to personal injury or property damage while stowing or deploying the motor.
- Using a #2 Phillips screwdriver, install the screws that secure the base of the gas spring to the lower link of the mount.
