Power Cable Extension

You can connect the cable from the transducer directly to the power cable, but this may not be long enough to reach both the location of the power source and the transducer for all installations. You can extend the cable to reach the power supply in your vessel using a combination of options:
  • You can use transducer extension cables between the transducer cable and the power cable.

    • Transducer extension cables are available from your local Garmin® dealer or from buy.garmin.com.

    • Transducer extension cables are available in 3 m (10 ft.) and 1 m (3 ft.) lengths.

    • You can add up to 6 m (20 ft.) of length using a combination of these extension cables.

  • You can cut and splice wire onto the positive and negative wires of the power cable to extend them (Power Cable Extension by Splicing Wires).

  • You can add transducer extension cables between the transducer cable and the power cable and you can also cut and splice wire onto the positive and negative wires of the power cable to extend them (Power Cable Extension Using Transducer Extension Cables and Splicing Wires).

Power Cable Extension by Splicing Wires

You can cut and splice wire (not included) onto the positive and negative wires of the power cable to extend them. Refer to the table below for the appropriate wire gauge for the length of this extension. Use marine-grade connectors or solder and water-resistant heat-shrink tubing when splicing the power wires.

NOTICE

You can extend the power wires up to 11 m (36 ft.) by splicing an extension. If you add an extension that exceeds this length, the transducer may not receive the voltage required to function properly.

Power Cable Extension Using Transducer Extension Cables and Splicing Wires

For maximum cable length, you can both add transducer extension cables between the transducer cable and the power cable and add wire splices onto the positive and negative wires of the power cable. You can extend the entire length of the cable to span up to 15 m (50 ft.) when using this combination of extensions.

The appropriate wire gauge used to extend the power wires in this combination depends on the length of transducer cable extensions used and the voltage provided by the power supply. Refer to the table below for the appropriate wire gauge for your installation needs.

NOTICE

The total extension length should not exceed 15 m (50 ft.). If you add extensions that exceed this length, the transducer may not receive the voltage required to function properly.
