Autopilot Operation with Active Smart Glide

The autopilot engages servos when the aircraft is more than 2 NM from the destination airport. Coupling will not occur if less than 2 NM; however, the autopilot will remain coupled if servos are already engaged. Flight director modes activate as follows:
  • Airport within Smart Glide range ring:

    • Lateral Mode — AFCS couples GPS mode and begins flying route towards nearest suitable airport.

    • Vertical Mode — AFCS couples IAS mode and pitch the aircraft to the best glide speed.

  • If no Airport is with Smart Glide range ring:

    • Lateral Mode — AFCS couples ROL mode and maintains wings level.

    • Vertical Mode — AFCS couples IAS mode and pitch the aircraft to the best glide speed.
