Autopilot Operation with Active Smart Glide
The autopilot engages servos when the aircraft is more than 2 NM from the destination airport. Coupling will not occur if less than 2 NM; however, the autopilot will remain coupled if servos are already engaged. Flight director modes activate as follows:
-
Airport within Smart Glide range ring:
-
Lateral Mode — AFCS couples GPS mode and begins flying route towards nearest suitable airport.
-
Vertical Mode — AFCS couples IAS mode and pitch the aircraft to the best glide speed.
-
-
If no Airport is with Smart Glide range ring:
-
Lateral Mode — AFCS couples ROL mode and maintains wings level.
-
Vertical Mode — AFCS couples IAS mode and pitch the aircraft to the best glide speed.
