Advisory vertical navigation guidance is provided for legacy non-precision, non-RNAV/GPS approaches (e.g., VOR, NDB) when a published advisory glide path angle is resident in the navigation databases. These approaches will include ‘+V’ in the selection title, as shown in the following figure, to indicate when advisory vertical guidance is available (though this guidance it is not required to complete the approach).

If selected, these approaches will be flown in GPS Approach and Glidepath Mode, using FMS lateral and vertical guidance (unless the crew selects otherwise, e.g., by selecting VOR Approach Mode). Refer to the Approaches section in Flight Management for more information on approach selection.

To satisfy the requirement to monitor the NAVAID for VOR or NDB approaches, a preview is displayed on the CDI. For VOR approaches, information about the preview (NAVAID tuned, NAVAID frequency, and selected approach course) will be automatically displayed, similar to ILS approaches. The CDI will automatically display the deviation from the VOR final approach course, as shown in the following figure.

For NDB approaches, the crew will need to manually set up the NDB bearing pointer on the HSI to monitor NDB bearing deviation.
