Suppression Near Approach Paths

All FLTA alerts are suppressed when the aircraft is within the Approach Path Suppression Area. The Approach Path Suppression Areas prevent potential nuisance alerts when the aircraft is on a published ILS, LPV, LNAV/VNAV, or LNAV+V approach procedure. An instrument approach does not have to be loaded into the FMS for FLTA Alerts to be suppressed per the criteria below.

The Approach Path Suppression Areas are defined as follows:

  • ILS - The lateral area of alert suppression extends from the approach's localizer emitter out toward its FAF and is based on the approach procedure's localizer beam and glide slope angle. This area is represented by the green cones in the following figure.
  • LPV - The alert suppression area is based on the lateral and vertical approach path on the final approach segment. This area is represented by the magenta cones in the following figure.
  • LNAV/VNAV or LNAV+V - The lateral area of alert suppression is based on a default angular width extending from the MAP position toward its FAF and the vertical area of alert suppression is based on the procedure's vertical angle at the MAP. This area is also represented by the magenta cones in the following figure.
