AFCS Pre-Flight Checklist — Garmin GFC 500:
To ensure the Automatic Flight Control System (AFCS) is operating properly prior to flight, perform the following Garmin recommended pre-flight checks.
- Autopilot － ENGAGE (using AP Button, or AP Key on mode controller).
- Autopilot － DISENGAGE (using AP Button, or AP Key on mode controller) verify autopilot disengages and audio alert is heard.
- Verify yaw damper － OFF (if installed) (verify yaw damper disengages and audio alert is heard).
- Flight director － SET FOR TAKEOFF (select VS mode or push FD Key to turn off the Flight Director).
- Flight controls － CHECK (verify autopilot servos are disengaged from pitch, roll, and yaw controls, and all controls move freely).
- Elevator trim control － SET FOR TAKEOFF.
