Cybersecurity
Operators have specific responsibilities around maintaining the cybersecurity of the aircraft and its systems. Regulations require that operators pay close attention to the following items:
-
When pairing a Portable Electronic Device (PED) to the system using Bluetooth, the flight crew should always reject a Bluetooth pairing request if the PINs on the PED and Garmin display are not identical or the request originates from any unknown or suspicious device.
-
Before activating a flight plan that has been transferred or uploaded from outside of the avionics system, the flight crew should always validate the flight plan is correct.
-
If a paired device is lost or stolen, is the victim of malware, or if the Wi-Fi password is exposed or leaked outside of a trusted group, the flight crew or operator should immediately delete the device from the paired device list and change the Wi-Fi password.
