Angle of Attack (AOA)

NOTICE

For single pilot aircraft the 'Split COM' function will remove aural alerts from the passenger and co-pilot headsets.

NOTICE

After muting the AOA audible tone, the audio will remain muted for at least 15 seconds until the maximum illuminated bar has been lit for more than five seconds.

AXIS™ installations that include a GAP 26 and a GSU 25, Angle of Attack information can be displayed on the PFD. During Angle of Attack Calibration the Stall Warning AOA, Caution Alert AOA, Minimum Visible AOA, and Approach Target AOA are defined. The 'Approach Target' calibration can not be completed until the first three are complete. Once calibration of the AOA speeds is complete, the pilot may choose the airspeed at which the AOA is enabled above (while the aircraft is in the air) and disabled below (while the aircraft is on the ground). Refer to the AXIS installation manual for information regarding AOA calibration.

As the aircraft reaches the minimum visible angle the bottom green lines will begin to appear on the AOA gauge that is displayed to the left of the airspeed indicator. As the AOA continues to increase more lines become visible. If the approach speed has been calibrated, the top visible green line also has an approach target (circle) in the middle of it, this is to signify the appropriate approach or glide angle for the airframe. Amber lines and chevrons on the AOA indicator signal the caution alert. A persistent aural beeping will begin at the first red chevron and will become progressively faster as the AOA is increased. A constant tone will be heard at the second red chevron indicating a stall condition. To mute the audible tone, press the Mute Button.
