After pressing the AP Key on the AFCS Mode Controller or touching the AP Button in the AFCS Control Window, the autopilot, yaw damper, and flight director (if not already active) are activated. When initially activated, the flight director engages in Roll Hold Mode and Pitch Hold Mode. Autopilot and yaw damper status are displayed in the center of the AFCS Status Box. Engagement is indicated by green ‘AP’ and ‘YD’ annunciations, respectively.
