Known Map Errors

Garmin – in tandem with our third-party electronic map providers – strives to provide our customers with the most economical, accurate, and up-to-date electronic maps available. However, road features and routing are subject to change, so the data we receive from our map provider may not always reflect the latest road modifications and/or additions in your area.

In rare instances, we may learn of known errors or oversights reported in the mapping data supplied by our map providers that could present a safety concern if a driver is not attentive to his/her surroundings and road signs.  Since safety is of the highest importance to Garmin, as a service to our customers we have developed this page as a means to communicate any such errors of a safety nature to our customers. The user is solely responsible for safe navigation and the prudent use of a GPS navigation aid.  Remember to always defer to all posted road signs and road conditions when making driving decisions.

  • City: Screven
  • County: Wayne
  • State: Georgia
  • Country: United States
  • Latitude/Longitude: N31.48616 W82.01674
  • Problem Description: US Highway 84, known locally as JL Tyre St, is incorrectly depicted as an undivided, two-way highway running through the center of Screven, GA.  The highway was reconfigured and is now divided with two lanes going one-way in each direction. Users of this product traveling northeast through Screven should be aware of this change and bear right onto the newly constructed roadway where the highway divides approximately .5 miles before entering Screven from the south.  For users traveling southwest on US Highway 84, the geometry of the road remains the same, although all lanes are now designated as one-way southbound.

Keep in mind that customers also have the option of updating the mapping in their Garmin product on a periodic basis, which will not only automatically correct the above conditions in your mapping but will also update the thousands of non safety-related changes that occur over time, such as new roads and points of interest (restaurants, gas stations, lodging, etc.).  Click here for the many update offerings available from Garmin.
