Due to technical limitations
with our G-chart based plotters, Garmin® is not able to provide
Navionics XL cartridges for sale.
All Offshore
G-charts are digitized directly from existing government and other
official charts.
Digital charts
are intended to be used as an aid to traditional navigational
charts, not as a replacement.
A prudent
navigator never relies on any single source of navigational information.
Garmin programs
electronic Offshore G-charts using Navionics digital cartography.
In the production of digital cartography, Navionics uses the latest
editions of paper charts available corrected to the NTM (Notice
to Mariners). Digital cartography production may take 1-12 months
for a single cartridge, depending on source data. Therefore, some
cartridges may not report current NTM on the month of release.
The paper
chart corrected to the latest NTM is the official legal document
required by the Coast Guard. While electronic charts are an excellent
aid to navigation and provide an extra measure of safety by showing
graphically where a vessel is on a chart, you must still navigate
by the official paper charts corrected to the latest NTM according
to the Coast Guard.
Warning:
The electronic chart is an aid to navigation designed to facilitate
the use of authorized government charts, not to replace them.
Only official government charts and notices to mariners contain
all information needed for the safety of navigation and, as always,
the captain is responsible for their prudent use. |
