My Nüvi has frozen, what do I do?

Beneath the flip-up antenna is a small reset button, which you can press. This reset will turn the Nüvi off and you will need to turn it back on using the POWER button. We also recommend that you update the operating software of the Nüvi. To do this go to this link and follow the on screen instructions:
http://www.garmin.com/products/webupdater/howtoinstall.jsp

My Nüvi will not pick up satellites.

This is probably the most common question. The solution is simple. Your Nüvi needs to see the sky above. Imagine that the satellite signal has the same properties as a small beam of light. Anything that gets between the satellite and your Nüvi will stop that light getting through. Your Nüvi needs continuous contact with the satellites in the sky. As with light, the signal from the satellites will pass through glass.
The process of acquiring satellites normally takes 1-2 minutes however you should not worry if it takes up to 20 minutes to acquire the its first fix. If the Nüvi will still not acquire a fix you should press the reset button under the antenna.
If not call support

My Nüvi drive is recognised on the PC, but it will not see the SD card drive?

- Turn the unit off
- Plug in the USB cable to the Nuvi and your computer. Your unit should automatically turns on.
- Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Storage > Disk Management.
- Click a Nuvi removable disk drive (either the internal memory or your SD card drive). Right-click your mouse, and select Change Drive Letter and Path...

  1. Select Edit..., select a drive letter from the drop-down list and click OK.
  2. Your Nuvi will now be in “my Computer”  with the drive letter that you picked.

My i3 will not pick up satellites

(Time to fix the problem = up to 40 mins)This is probably the most common question. The solution is simple. Your i3 needs to see the sky above. Imagine that the satellite signal has the same properties as a small beam of light. Anything that gets between the satellite and your i3 will stop that light getting through. Your i3 needs continuous contact with the satellites in the sky. As with light, the signal from the satellites will pass through glass. Your i3 will not work through a heated or heat reflective windscreen. Heated or heat reflective windscreens have a metal layer in them which stops the satellite signal. The only solution is to use a Garmin external antenna. Your Garmin dealer will be able to supply this.

The process of acquiring satellites normally takes 1-2 minutes however you should not worry if it takes up to 20 minutes to acquire the its first fix.  If your i3 does not pick up satellites within 40 minutes on the first occasion, you might need to reset your i3. To do this you should switch off your i3, press and hold down the arrow button, then the wheel and finally the power button. Hold all three buttons down until the i3 switches on. Select 'Yes' to erase all user data. Follow the instructions and again leave your i3 outside for up to 40 minutes. Thereafter you should pick up satellites within 30 –90 seconds.

My i3 freezes up.

(Time to fix the problem = 10 mins) This sometimes occurs to units running older software. The solution is to install the latest software release from our website. The common misconception is that the software update corrects the maps. This is not true; the software update only changes the operating program on your i3.

Firstly you will need to install USB drivers onto your PC
(DO NOT CONNECT YOUR i3 TO YOUR PC UNTILL YOU HAVE DONE THIS). The USB drivers tell your PC how to react when your i3 is connected. Some i3's were supplied with a CD, this CD needs to be installed. Many i3's did not have a CD, however the contents (USB drivers) are available on our website, click the following link.
http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=591
When you click on download you will be asked if you want to open (run) the file or save the file. Select open (run), you will then be guided through the set-up.
Your USB drivers should now be installed it is now safe to connect your i3 to your PC. Next you will need to download and run the 'Web updater' program from the Garmin website. Once downloaded and run this program will seek out the latest software from our website and load it onto your i3. Click on the following link to download the web updater program.
http://www.garmin.com/products/webupdater/
When you click on the 'download the latest web updater software' option you will be asked if you want to open (run) the file or save the file. Select open (run), you will then be guided through the set-up. Once the web updater has been installed you will need to run it. To do this, firstly click on the windows start button, select 'all programs', then click on the Garmin folder and finally click on the 'Web updater' program.

My i3 is asking me to insert the transflash (microSD) memory card.

(Time to fix the problem = 5 mins) If your i3 is asking you to connect it to your PC, or is suggesting that the data card in the side of it is missing, then you should try the following. Firstly check to see if the data card is inserted. If there is no card in the slot, you will need to contact your dealer. If the card is in the side of your i3 you should switch the i3 off, press the card in which should allow it to pop out, and then reset the unit. To reset you should switch off your i3, press and hold down the arrow button, then the wheel and finally the power button. Hold all three buttons down until the i3 switches on. Select 'Yes' to erase all user data. Follow the instructions on the screen. When asked to insert the card, push the card back into the slot until it clicks. If this does not fix the problem, please contact your dealer.

The voice files will take about 3 mins to load during which time you will see an hour glass on the screen.  When this disappears you can switch the i3 off and back on again.  You are now ready to load the English voice again as above.
