What is New Leaf?

New Leaf Health & Fitness specializes in assessing your fitness and metabolism to provide you with personalized exercise plans. When you take a New Leaf Active Metabolic Training™ assessment, a trained professional scientifically measures your heart rate and metabolism to determine your true heart rate zones and calories burned during exercise, including calories burned from fat. Then, based on your assessment results, your trainer develops a custom training program that helps you exercise at the right intensity — to improve your performance, increase fitness or lose weight. These personalized workouts are based on your measured heart rate zones, and they help you build and improve your fitness over time.

How do Forerunner 305 and New Leaf work together?

Forerunner 305 helps you follow your New Leaf workout program successfully:

  • Schedule your workouts — With Forerunner 305 and Garmin Training Center, you can schedule your workouts, so you'll always remember which workout you need to do on a given day. Once you've transferred your workouts to the Forerunner, you can set up and start today's workout in seconds.
  • Track your heart rate — Forerunner continuously tracks your heart rate and alerts you if your heart rate exceeds or drops below your target. It also displays your current heart rate zone, so you can see at a glance how hard you're working, and prompts you when it's time to change heart rate zones during an interval workout.
  • Calculate calories — Forerunner 305 can track your total calories burned, including calories burned from fat. This data is based on your measured metabolism, not on estimates.

If my heart rate is too high or too low, Forerunner alerts me with audible beeps and a pop-up message. How do I get started?

  1. Find a fitness club or other location that offers New Leaf Fitness testing in your area (find locations near me) and get tested.
  2. Get your personalized results and customized workouts — provided in an electronic file.
  3. Load the New Leaf file with your new workouts into Garmin Training Center and your Forerunner 305. Then start your training!

Make sure you have the latest Forerunner 305 software and Garmin Training Center software.
