 Change History

Changes made from version 2.08 to 2.09 Beta:

  • Added support for adding and removing via points.
The menu on the active route page now contains a new command to insert/remove "via points" in the active route. Via points are intermediate destinations that will be reached on the way to the final destination. They may also be used to modify the active route to select an alternate path. If the active route does not contain a via point, the menu will include the "Add Via Point" option. This lets you use the map or Find menus to specify a single via point. If the active route already contains a via point, the Routes menu will instead include the "Remove Via Point" option. This will remove the first via point from the active route. After adding or removing a via point, the active route is immediately calculated.
  • Added "Follow Roads" support to manual routes.
The menu on the saved "Route List" page now contains a new command to "Follow Roads". If the highlighted route is a manual route, this feature will calculate an autoroute that will treat each point in the manual route as a "via point". This feature can also be used by selecting the "Navigate" button from the manual "Route Review" page.
  • Added the ability to display the next turn "Turn Review" page by using the UP and DOWN cursor keys during autoroute navigation.
When the page showing turn information is displayed by selecting a turn from the"Active Route" page, the DOWN key will change the screen to show the following turn. Similarly, the UP key will show the previous turn.
  • Added support for selecting interstate names found in more that one state when searching for interstate exits (i.e., I-470 in Kansas or Missouri).
  • Added "Shutdown On Arrival" to the "Guidance" setup tab page.
If set to "Yes", the GPSV will turn off automatically after the "Arriving at Destination" message has been set and the vehicle speed drops to 0.
  • Added EOV Hungarian Grid and South African Grid support.
  • Correct reported calculator page problems.
  • Added "Memory Race" Game.
The goal of this game is to clear the board by matching all of the symbol pairs in the shortest time. Select the desired playing area and size, highlight "Start", and press the "Enter" key to begin. Walk or travel until your position appears in a square. Press the"Enter" key to open the chest and reveal the symbol. Now move to another square to attempt to find the matching symbol. If the symbol in the next chest does not match the first, both chests are closed. The game is completed when all symbol pairs are found.

 Warning

If this software is uploaded to a GPS unit other than the product for which it is designed, you will not be able to operate that unit. If attempts to upload software fail, you may need to return the unit to Garmin for service.

 System requirements

The following are required to upload the software update into your Garmin GPS unit:

  1. IBM-compatible PC running Windows XP or later operating system and an available Com 1, 2, 3, or 4 port.
  2. PC Interface Cable for your GPS unit. The PC Interface Cable may be purchased through your local Garmin distributor or ordered direct from our Online Store.

Instructions for uploading the new software to your unit:

Note: Be sure that you have a record of your user data (waypoints, routes, tracks, data field settings) as this process may erase this data and re-initialize your GPS unit. Once your user data is deleted it cannot be recovered from the unit and Garmin is not responsible for lost user data.

  1. Click on "Download" and choose to save the file to your computer.
  2. Choose a location where you can easily locate the file by saving it to a location such as the "My Documents" folder or to "C:\".
  3. Once the download is complete, go to the location where you saved the file.
  4. Locate the downloaded file and double-click on it. This will launch the Win-Zip Self Extractor. This program compresses the data to allow for a faster download of the needed files.
  5. A program window will appear asking you where to "Un-zip" the files. This is by default C:\Garmin. You can change this location if you like. Be sure to note where the un-zipped files are going to allow you to find them!
  6. Click on the button labeled "Un-zip".
  7. Once the un-zip process is complete, click on the "Close" button to exit the Win-Zip Self Extractor.
  8. Open the C:\Garmin (or other folder where you un-zipped the files), locate the file named "Updater" and double click on it.
  9. Connect your GPS to your computer using a Garmin PC Interface cable to an open serial port. Turn the GPS on, place it in Simulator mode (refer to your owner's manual for instructions) and verify that the Interface Mode (found under the Main Menu page, refer to your owner's manual for instructions) is set to Garmin, GRMN, GRMN/GRMN, or Data Transfer/Host mode.
  10. Click on the "OK" button on the Updater program window to start the data transfer.

It is recommended that you disable screen savers or other programs running on your PC while you go through the update process. Disruptions to the update process may render your GPS inoperable. If the transfer is interrupted, turn off the GPS and then turn it back on. Reboot your PC, go to step #8 and attempt the download again. Garmin is not responsible for failed downloads of operating software to the GPS and factory resetting the GPS unit will fall under our Flat Rate Repair Policy.
