The GNS 480 is aviation’s first Gamma-3 WAAS-certified GPS/Comm navigator. It’s loaded with features and guidance capabilities that put it at the forefront of panel-mount navigation technology.

Integrate Your Avionics

In addition to GPS navigation, the all-in-one GNS 480 combines a built-in 760-channel VHF comm radio with 200-channel VOR, glideslope and localizer receivers. View graphics in crisp detail on its 256-color, high-resolution, sunlight readable moving-map LCD display. Useful features include multiple frequency storage, standby frequency monitoring, digital CDI, voice prompting and audio alerts, auto-decoding of Morse code station identifiers and single-nav cross check of position fixes.

Fly WAAS Approaches

GNS 480 is the first integrated GPS navigator approved to fly LPV “glideslope” approaches without reference to ground-based navaids of any kind. Featuring an advanced 15-channel receiver capable of five position updates per second, the GNS 480 meets the FAA’s stringent TSO C146a standards for WAAS “sole means” navigation – offering vertical, as well as lateral, approach guidance into thousands of U.S. airports previously inaccessible in IFR conditions.

Enhance Situational Awareness

GNS 480 seamlessly integrates built-in terrain and navigation databases, providing a clear, concise picture of where you are and where you’re heading. GNS 480's huge Jeppesen® database, which can be updated with front-loading data cards, contains location reference for airports, VORs, NDBs, Intersections, Flight Service Stations, published approaches, SIDs/STARs, Special Use Airspace and geopolitical boundaries. A detailed basemap clearly shows airports, cities, highways, railroads, rivers, lakes, coastlines, SUAs and more. Using information from the built-in terrain and U.S. obstacles databases, GNS 480 displays color coding to graphically alert you when proximity conflicts loom ahead. In addition, you can augment GNS 480 with optional Class-B Terrain Awareness and Warning System (TAWS) for an extra margin of safety in the air.

Couple with GMX 200

For added situational reference, GNS 480 seamlessly integrates with the GMX 200 multi-function display (MFD). When coupled with the GMX 200, range changes performed on GNS 480 are simultaneously reflected on the MFD. As you select an approach on GNS 480, the approach plate is automatically depicted on the GMX 200 with Jeppesen® Chart View™. You can also view a vertical profile of the approach using the MFD’s split-screen capability

Put It on Autopilot

Working in tandem with standard autopilots that accept roll-steering commands, the GNS 480 behaves like a high-end flight management system (FMS) by providing the necessary guidance data to fly the aircraft through all approach procedures.

Expand Your Panel Mount

GNS 480 is designed to accommodate a variety of traffic and weather alerting interfaces. It has the built-in controls for a remote transponder, such as the GTX 33, Garmin’s new solid-state Mode S transponder that can be used to deliver traffic advisories to the GNS 480 via the FAA’s Traffic Information Service (TIS). With a TIS datalink, a pilot essentially sees what the ATC sees, including trend vectors and altitude data of nearby aircraft.
