nuvi 350 FAQs - Detailed List
  1. Q. My nüvi is supposed to speak street names when giving voice prompts but it doesn't. How can I fix this?

    A. All of the Garmin automotive GPS units that speak street names are also loaded with basic voice prompts. If one of these types of voice prompts has been selected, the voice prompts will not speak street names.

In order to change this setting on the nüvi line of products, please follow these steps:

    1. In the Main Menu, tap on the Settings icon.
    2. Tap on "Locale"
    3. The second line on this screen has a picture of a mouth. To the right, the current voice for the GPS device is listed. Tap it to change the voice.
    4. Select a voice that is labeled with (TTS) at the end. These voices will speak street names.
    5. Select "OK". The voice has now been changed.

Your device should now speak street names.

  7. Q. I keep getting a message saying "Unsafe Removal of Device" when I unplug the USB cable. Is there something wrong with my GPS device?

    A. No, there is nothing wrong with your GPS device or computer. In order to not receive this message, the Garmin will need to be "ejected" from the computer before you unplug the USB cable. When you are ready to disconnect your nüvi from your computer:

    1. Double-click the Unplug or Eject icon in your system tray (usually denoted by a small green arrow).
    2. Select ?USB Mass Storage Device? and click Stop.
    3. Select the nüvi drives and click OK.
    4. You can disconnect your nüvi from your computer now.

  8. Q. Why does my device not recognize music downloaded from either my iPod or Windows Media player?

    A. Garmin GPS units that accept music files will only recognize music in an MP3 format. If your music has been purchased from iTunes, Windows Media Player, or any other internet music service, it will not recognize those files. They use proprietary file systems to secure those files.

If you wish, iTunes may be used to create MP3 files from CD's that you own. The files must be MP3 format.

  9. Q. If I load MP3 files onto a data card, will I still be able to play MP3 files that are loaded onto the internal memory of the unit itself?

    A. Yes, MP3 files can be loaded onto the internal memory of the device as well as an external data card, and they will all be displayed together.

  10. Q. How do I update the software on my GTM 10/11/12/20 traffic receiver?

    A. When you update the firmware of your GPS device, the WebUpdater program will automatically check to see if there are updates for those traffic devices as well. If an update is available, it will be installed into the GPS unit, and the traffic receiver will be updated the next time it is used with the GPS.

  11. Q. Why does the zoom scale change by itself on the map screen of my nüvi?

    A. Depending on the speed and the type of road being traveled, the unit will automatically adjust the zoom scale on the map. Otherwise, with the latest firmware loaded to the unit, the nüvi now has a Variable Autozoom feature so you can adjust the zoom scale accordingly.

  12. Q. I have a music file that plays correctly in Windows Media Player but will not play in my Automotive device. Why is this and what can I do?

    A. Currently all Garmin Automotive devices play .mp3 files. If a file has an extension of the following, .wav, .wma, or any other that is not .mp3 it will not play.

The file will need to be converted to .mp3 format. Free programs such as Apple iTunes can convert those files. Garmin cannot support the use of this product.
