Q. My iQue 3200/3600 has 32 MB of internal memory. When I attempt to load 20 MB of map detail, I receive an error log after synchronization indicating that I exceeded the memory limit of the internal storage. Why is this happening?
A. The 32 MB of internal memory storage is not solely dedicated to the mapping software that came with your unit. The Palm OS on your unit takes up about 10 MB of memory alone. During your initial HotSync, your basemap, voice-guidance files, and other initial Palm applications install, taking away another 6 MB of space. This leaves slightly over 14 MB of storage space for any other applications or maps. Any other software applications loaded to your iQue will take up additional internal memory. To check the amount of memory in use and the amount available in the iQue, access the "All" menu, then tap the Option soft button in the bottom left-hand corner of the iQue. (It is the second button from the left, next to the Home icon that looks like a house.) The App menu and the Options menu will appear. Make sure the App menu is selected, and choose "Info". You will see a statement at the top of the Info screen, such as "Free Space: 2.8M of 22.8M".

Q. Can I use my stylus to enter a Waypoint with my iQue 3200/3600?
A. Yes you can. While on the Map page, tap with the stylus in the location you wish to mark a waypoint. You should see a white pointer or arrow appear. Next, tap the Flag icon with your stylus. Edit the name of the waypoint if you wish, and tap "OK" when finished. The waypoint will now be added to the list of waypoints stored in your iQue and as a contact on your PC when you next synchronize the two. Also, pressing and holding the thumbwheel for 2-3 seconds will result in the unit marking a waypoint at your current location.
Q. At what point will I need to purchase an external SD card to store maps onto?
A. Even though the iQue has a total of 32MB of internal memory, the Palm OS itself consumes about 10 MB of memory. This leaves about 22 MB of memory for mapping detail, additional programs, games, and pictures you may wish to store on the iQue. During your initial HotSync, this total is reduced to approximately 14 MB due to the installation of your basemap, voice guidance files, and other applications.
There are several basemap options to choose from, and your selection will dictate where it must be stored?internally or on an SD/MMC card. Furthermore, the number of additional detailed maps you wish to have access to may dictate the necessity for an external memory card. Also, MP3 files (iQue 3600 only) must be stored on a SD/MMC card.
SD/MMC cards may are found at most electronic retail outlets.

Q. Why do I keep getting a message stating the memory is full when loading maps to a SD card in my iQue 3200/3600? I know I have enough space.
A. You may have a file in the installation tool that is trying to load to the internal memory of the iQue. You will need to remove this file from the installation tool used by the Palm Desktop program.
To do this, open your Install Tool from your Palm Desktop. You may see two map files. One will say GMAPSUPP.PDB. The PDB on the end of this file means that it is ready to load to the internal memory of the unit. The other file is listed as GMAPSUPP.IMG. The IMG at the end of the file means it is ready to load to the SD card.
You cannot change the destination of the maps once they are in the install tool. Check the available internal memory on your unit. If the GMAPSUPP.PDB file is taking up more memory than you have free space for, you will need to remove it. Highlight the GMAPSUPP.PDB file, and then click on ?Remove?. Then click ?Yes? when you are asked if you are sure that you want to remove this file. Finally, run a hot sync. The map that you chose to load to your SD card will sync over.

Q. Where do I connect the external antenna to the iQue?
A. The external antenna (GA 27C) connects to the top of the iQue. There is a small round rubber cap to the right of the SD card slot, near the stylus. Lift the rubber cap, and you will see the MCX connection that the external antenna plugs into.
Q. Can I install other MapSource products, such as U.S. Topo, on my iQue 3200/3600. If so, how do I do that?
A. Yes. There are two methods of loading maps on your iQue.
1. Once you have installed the iQue software, including City Select and Palm Desktop/HotSync, you can install detailed maps using "Map Install" (found within Palm Desktop). If you have purchased a second MapSource product, such as U.S. Topo, you may install these maps via Map Install as well. After launching the Map Install application, select one of several installed MapSource products, such as U.S. Topo or City Select, from the drop-down menu above the maps. Selecting maps in this manner will allow you to create a list (shown to the right of the maps) of the different types of maps that have been installed. Use the Map Tool to select the maps you wish to download by clicking on each map. The maps will now be highlighted pink. Once you have chosen all of the maps you wish to save, click "Next" and select the user name and destination for the maps: SD/MMC or internal. Map Install will prepare the maps to be installed the next time you perform a HotSync. Now, with the iQue on the HotSync cradle and the cradle plugged into a USB port, press the HotSync button on the cradle. The maps will be installed.
2. If you have purchased and installed a second MapSource product, you may select these maps, as well as City Select maps, within MapSource for synchronization with the iQue. You must first ensure that you have updated MapSource to version 5.0 or higher. From the drop-down menu above the maps, you may choose the particular MapSource product you would like to select. Utilize the Map Tool to select the individual maps for synchronization. Once they're selected, the maps will turn pink and their names will appear on the Map Tab to the left. Once you have selected several maps for synchronization, click on the File menu and select "Save To". Then choose either "Storage Card Reader" or the iQue. MapSource will create the necessary map file that will be synchronized with the iQue or saved to the card reader the next time you perform a HotSync.

Q. What is a Waypoint?
A. Waypoints are locations or landmarks worth recording and storing in your GPS. These are locations you may later want to return to. They may be check points on a route or significant ground features. (e.g., camp, the truck, a fork in a trail, or a favorite fishing spot).
Waypoints may be defined and stored in the unit manually, by taking coordinates for the waypoint from a map or other reference. This can be done before ever leaving home. Or more usually, waypoints may be entered directly by taking a reading with the unit at the location itself, giving it a name, and then saving the point.
Waypoints may also be put into the unit by referencing another waypoint already stored, giving the reference waypoint, and entering the distance and compass bearing to the new waypoint.

A. Press and hold in the Thumb Wheel on the left side of the iQue 3600 until you see the ?Mark Waypoint? box, and then tap "Edit". Next, tap "Location", and then tap "Show Info". Now, tap within the Location field. You'll be asked ?How would you like to change the location?? Select "Manual" if you would like to use the Graffiti pad, "Find" if you would like to utilize the QueFind application, and "Map" if you would like to use the white arrow cursor to select the location.
Q. What is the proper way to place the iQue into?or remove it from?its cradle?
A. Align the iQue with the angle of cradle and insert the unit directly into the cradle. To remove the iQue, pull the unit forward (in a more vertical position) and lift it from the cradle. This technique provides a locking connection between the iQue and the cradle.
Q. Will all my current Palm applications work with the iQue 3200/3600?
A. Most applications designed for the Palm OS will work. And most applications that are designed to operate on Palm version 5.0 will be compatible with the iQue. Of course, Garmin has not tested every program, and we cannot make any guarantees that all programs will be compatible with the iQue, including applications designed for previous Palm versions. Please check with the software provider to determine if the program you are interested in is compatible with the iQue.
Q. Why does a different program launch when I press the Address button at the bottom of the iQue 3200/3600?
A. Any one application installed onto the iQue 3600 may be associated with one of the four buttons at the bottom of the iQue 3600. Pressing the button will then lauch the chosen application (such as QueFind, Address, Documents, etc). If you do not want a button associated with a program, you may change the association. Access the "All" menu, where you will find a list of all applications installed in the iQue 3600, and select "Prefs" (Preferences). Next, select "Buttons" from the drop-down menu in the upper-right-hand corner of the screen. Then, assign the buttons to applications from the drop-down menus, matching the picture of the button with the name of the program.
Q. Do I have to use the Map Install application within Palm Desktop to install maps onto my iQue 3200/3600?
A. No. MapSource may also be used to install maps. (Please note that MapSource does not come with the iQue's City Select software.) If you already have MapSource installed on your computer, you will be able to select maps within MapSource and create a mapset that will be transferred to the iQue the next time you perform a HotSync. Because only the latest version of MapSource (version 5.0 or higher) possesses this ability, you may need to download the most current version of MapSource.
Q. Is the iQue 3000/3200/3600 compatible with Apple Macintosh computers?
A. Garmin now offers a Palm Desktop for the Mac that is compatible with Mac OS X and above. This is a basic Palm desktop application only. Garmin MapSource options are only available in a Windows format. In the future, Garmin will offer a solution so Mac computers can work with Garmin devices in 2007.
