"Disaster avoided on Mt. McKinley with eTrex Summit"

In May of 2002, a group of us climbed Mt. McKinley (20320') via the West Rib route. I took my Garmin eTrex Summit as a navigation aid. There were some bad weather days that caused slow movement. At one point, it was very difficult to see the person next in line on the rope. We were trying to make it back to our camp at 13,300 feet when I could not make out the route. It looked like there was a drop-off in front of us, but I wasn't sure. We had placed wands on the snow but could not see them anymore. I turned on the eTrex Summit and found we were only 330 feet from camp. We could not see it due the falling snow. I followed the GPS pointer and finally, just under 200 feet, I could just make out the walls of our camp. We were very relieved to find camp. The next day, I could see that if I had headed in the direction I thought I should go, it would have been over a huge drop-off.
