"eTrex Venture survives dunk"

I recently purchased an eTrex Venture handheld GPS for use while I volunteer for a marine rescue service. While launching our boat one morning, my GPS came off of the lanyard that it was on. I went on my way to get the boat fueled up. About five minutes into my journey, I noticed that my GPS was missing. I immediately turned around and went back. I was lucky to be able to find the GPS to begin with. Then I went and ran the GPS under freshwater for two to three minutes, and when I turned on the GPS, it worked—and I have had no problems with it since. Thank you for making a great product.

Sincerely,
A. B.

"Enjoying the fireworks with our eTrex Venture®"

We bought a Garmin® eTrex Venture, mainly for use on our boat. Up on Lake Muskoka, we went across the lake to a marina that was hosting a fireworks display. On the way over to the marina, we plotted all the lake buoys and other important waypoints, like a few islands, etc. When the fireworks ended around 10 p.m., we headed home to the cottage. Using the eTrex Venture, we were able to follow our path exactly back home, and we only needed the boat light for the actual docking at the cottage. Every waypoint was perfect, every buoy was plotted correctly. It was spooky to see the buoys show up right beside our boat. The unit worked flawlessly. These things are a great addition to our boat for courses, fishing holes, marinas, and those rocks and shoals that like to hide just out of sight. Thanks Garmin!

"Venture survives a pounding in Maine"

The Maine coastline is one of the most incredible places to be in New England. My eTrex Venture assisted in charting a course toward it from the hiking trails of Acadia National Park. I bounced my way along the coastal boulders toward a rock-climbing area on a cliff facing the vast Atlantic Ocean. As I was jumping from one boulder to another, the Venture slipped out of my pocket and slammed onto a rock three meters below. Just as I noticed the thud of the reinforced casing on hard rock, I saw it slip further down, heading toward the open seas. The rubber edging on the eTrex® made for graceful bounces from one rock to another, and I feared its loss. So, I began a rescue mission. I eventually retrieved the Garmin device, only to find it unscathed — not a single scratch. It was slightly shaken and frightened, but the eTrex Venture found comfort in my zipped-up pocket. Since that event, the eTrex has been dropped, bounced, banged, scraped, tossed, submerged, slammed, covered in mud, and frozen. It still works and looks great. I, however, have the scars.

Thanks for keeping us rough users in mind when building your products!
