Q. What is the Garmin Communicator?

A. The Garmin Communicator is an Internet browser plugin that allows you to easily transfer data between websites and Garmin GPS devices.

Q. Does the Communicator work on all websites?

A. No, the Communicator only works on websites that have implemented it, although it can be added to most any website.

The Communicator is free and supported with an API for all webmasters. If you know a website that would benefit from its use, please direct the webmaster to Garmin Developer.

Q. Does the Communicator work with all Garmin devices?

A. No, the Communicator works best with devices that connect to a computer via USB cable.

While some devices that connect to a computer via serial cable or serial-USB adapter will work with the Communicator, they are not officially supported and we cannot guarantee compatibility or provide customer support.

Q. Why won't the Communicator work on my computer or Internet browser?

A. The Communicator works on IBM-compatible PCs running Windows® 2000, XP and Vista operating systems with Internet Explorer 6+ or Firefox 1.5+.

The Communicator also works on Intel-based or PowerPC G3 or later Macs running OS 10.4 or later operating systems with Firefox 2.0+ or Safari 2.0+.

Q. Do I need to install USB drives for the Communicator to work with my GPS device?

A. No, the required USB drivers are packaged with the Communicator installer and are installed at the same time as the Communicator.

If the test page says your Communicator is successfully installed, but it's not detecting your device, download and install the latest Garmin USB drivers.

Q. How can I tell if the Garmin Communicator is installed?
