OLATHE,
Kan. Garmin® International, the leading manufacturer
of navigation and communication equipment for the outdoor
recreation market, announces a new all-in-one navigation
device for the outdoor enthusiast -- the eTrex Summit,
the first combination GPS, altimeter and electronic compass.
"This
is the unit that the hard-core outdoorsman has been waiting
for and we are pleased to deliver it," said Gary Kelley,
director of marketing, Garmin International. "With this
product we've combined all of the great features of our
smallest and most lightweight GPS, with two important navigation
tools."
The
eTrex Summit comes on the heels of the extremely popular
eTrex® that was designed for both marine and recreation
use. In addition to a powerful 12 parallel channel GPS receiver,
the eTrex Summit boasts several new features on the inside
that make it the perfect companion for the hiker, hunter
or outdoor enthusiast. The eTrex Summit offers an electronic
compass to provide bearing information when you're standing
still. The unit also features an altimeter to determine
precise altitude.
Like
its predecessor, the eTrex Summit comes packaged in a small,
sleek case with operating buttons located on either side
of the unit. The case is completely waterproof to withstand
immersion in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes.
The
most noticeable physical change between the eTrex and the
eTrex Summit is the color. Unlike its yellow counterpart,
the eTrex Summit comes in an earthy khaki color that makes
it blend right in with the great outdoors.
