Garmin® Introduces High-Performance GPS Modules at Low-End Prices

OLATHE, Kan. / July 29, 2002 / PRNewswire — Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (Nasdaq: GRMN), today announced that the company has introduced the GPS 15™ — a family of high-performance sensor boards that provide GPS position, velocity and time information for various original equipment manufacturer (OEM) applications, such as vehicle tracking.

Available in three models, the GPS 15 line will compliment the GPS 25 in Garmin's OEM sensor board lineup. The GPS 15 family is smaller, lighter, less expensive, and consumes less power, but offer the same quality GPS performance that has defined Garmin as an industry leader.

"We are offering our OEM customers premium performance, quality and capabilities in a GPS module at very competitive prices," said Gary Kelley, Director of Marketing of Garmin International Inc. "This is a significant milestone for our company and we’re delighted to provide a line of small, reliable sensors with the versatility to satisfy most any GPS requirement of most any OEM application. We started delivering the GPS 15 in volume earlier this month and are very pleased with the performance and market acceptance."

Roughly the size of a commemorative stamp, the GPS 15 weighs only 10 grams and offers CMOS interface. The GPS 15L and GPS 15H, weigh approximately 15 grams, measure about the size of a matchbook, and are 3.3-5V and 8-40V modules, respectively. Both offer one pulse per second timing, an RS-232 interface and WAAS capability.
