Garmin’s® GPS 18 Family Gets Even More Powerful

GPS 18-5Hz

OLATHE, Kan./July 26, 2005/PR Newswire — Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (Nasdaq: GRMN), today introduced the GPS 18-5Hz™, a powerful and precise GPS sensor for OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) applications. The 12-parallel-channel, WAAS-enabled GPS receiver provides five independent GPS fixes per second, rather than the one fix per second rate of the other members of the GPS 18 family.

“The GPS 18-5Hz is an ideal unit for machine control, guidance, and agricultural applications where pinpoint positioning and velocity data are required,” said Gary Kelley, Garmin’s director of marketing. “Its compact design and proven reliability make it ideal for virtually any precision OEM application.”

Measuring just 2.4 inches (61mm)in diameter and weighing 5.7 ounces (53.9g), the unit includes non-volatile memory for storage of configuration information, a real-time clock, and raw measurement output data for sophisticated, high-precision dynamic applications.

Thanks to the GPS 18-5Hz’s WAAS capability, the sensor can provide position accuracy of less than 3 meters without the use of an external DGPS beacon receiver. The sensor also offers exceptional EMI/RFI performance for easy integration into systems that will be operated near mobile computing devices and wireless communications equipment. The unit features an asynchronous serial input that is compatible with RS-232 or TTL voltage levels.

The GPS 18-5Hz is expected to be available in August 2005. For additional specifications and pricing information, please visit www.garmin.com/oem.
