Garmin® Adds Chapura® PocketMirror® Software to iQue™ 3600
OLATHE, Kan. and MOBILE, Ala./January 19, 2004 — Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (Nasdaq: GRMN), and Chapura Inc., an innovator of synchronization technology, today said that Garmin will bundle PocketMirror Standard software from Chapura with its iQue 3600 to offer users a popular and effective solution for synchronizing with Microsoft® Outlook®. PocketMirror Standard software provides data mobility by enabling users to conveniently sync Outlook Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Notes information between their PC and the Palm OS® applications on the
iQue 3600.
"The iQue 3600 delivers an innovative blend of organization and navigation capabilities to mobile users in an integrated handheld device," said N. Guy Waitley, Garmin’s associate director of business development. "By adding the PocketMirror application and Chapura’s service and support, we are improving the iQue 3600 user experience to make it an exceptional handheld computing choice for individuals and businesses alike."
The iQue 3600 is the first Palm OS® PDA with integrated Global Positioning System (GPS) technology, featuring Garmin’s proven user interface for navigation as well as the leading Palm applications. The built-in Que software applications allow users to see their location on an electronic map, select a destination from a robust points-of-interest database, and receive turn-by-turn directions and voice guidance along the route. Further, the user can utilize the unique integration on the device to navigate to the location of a meeting from their Date Book or Address Book. The iQue 3600 also has a built-in MP3 player and voice recorder as value-added features in the mobile environment. Now with PocketMirror software, iQue 3600 users can make their mobile lives more productive by viewing and updating essential Outlook information while on the road and synchronizing changes with their PCs once they are back at their desks.
"Chapura is excited about the opportunity to serve Garmin customers the way we have served millions of other Palm Powered™ handheld owners," said Keith Ellenberg, chief operating officer at Chapura. "As leaders in the synchronization industry, Chapura respects Garmin’s innovative technology and are happy they chose to offer our software solution for their customers."
Chapura PocketMirror Standard software adds the following benefits to iQue 3600 users:
- PocketMirror Standard allows users to use the built-in Palm OS Date Book, Address Book, To Do List and Memo Pad on their handhelds to carry and update essential Outlook Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Notes information.
- By synchronizing multiple handhelds to the same Outlook profile, any group may access the same data.
- PocketMirror Standard also supports synchronizing to the same Exchange Server folders from any PC connected to the server.
- Simple, one-button synchronization is quick and gives customers access to accurate and current information at their desk or on the go.
- PocketMirror Standard supports Microsoft Outlook 97 or higher, so new investments in software are not likely required for immediate results.
- Chapura offers free expert support.
Garmin will begin shipping the iQue 3600 bundled with PocketMirror Standard from Chapura in January 2004 for the current MSRP of $589. PocketMirror Standard was first released in 1997. The software is available in six languages other than English: French, German, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, and Brazilian Portuguese. PocketMirror Standard is available to owners of Palm Powered devices that do not include the software for $39.95 on the Chapura Web site, www.chapura.com.
