Garmin® Teams with Handango on iQue™ 3600 Mobile
Software Storefront
OLATHE, Kan. and HURST, Texas/Jan. 8, 2003/PR Newswire —
Garmin (Nasdaq: GRMN) and Handango, the leading publisher and
platform for mobile software, today announced they are working
together to deliver software to users of Garmin's new iQue
3600. Garmin has licensed Handango's application management
and provisioning platform, Handango AMPP, to create the Garmin
Software Store and give iQue 3600 users access to one of the world's
largest catalog of commercial Palm OS applications. The Garmin
Software Store will be available when the product begins shipping
in the second quarter of 2003 at www.garmin.com/software.
The Garmin Software Store will offer thousands of applications
ranging from games and entertainment to personal productivity
to business software. Applications leverage the crisp color screen,
intuitive functionality and lightning-fast Motorola processor
on the iQue 3600.
"Utilizing Handango AMPP, we will be able to offer iQue 3600
end users even more functionality to their already feature-rich
handheld," said Guy Waitley, Garmin's associate director
of business development. "By providing a wide array of software
options, Handango represents a comprehensive solution that we
expect will enhance the overall iQue 3600 user experience."
Garmin and Handango will also engage in a variety of demand-generation
and co-marketing activities. Every iQue 3600 will ship with a
CD-ROM containing a wide variety of popular applications provided
by Handango. Users will have the option to try the applications
for a limited time and to purchase full versions online at the
Garmin Software Store. Additional promotional activities may include
in-box flyers and electronic marketing among others.
"We are thrilled Garmin chose Handango and our time-tested
platform Handango AMPP as their source to deliver mobile software
to iQue 3600 users," said Laura Rippy, chief executive officer
of Handango. "Together, we give users cutting-edge GPS technology
and the widest selection of mobile content."
