Garmin® Adds Vivid Color to the GPSMAP® 182/188
Sounder
OLATHE, Kan. Garmin International, a unit of Garmin Ltd.
(Nasdaq: GRMN), today announced two additions to its new line
of chartplotter and combination GPS/sonar units sunlight-readable
color on the GPSMAP 182C
and GPSMAP 188C Sounder.
Garmin overhauled its entire marine line in 2001, and offered
daylight-viewable color as an option to monochrome displays at
the high end of the product mix. Now the company is bringing brilliant
color to the heart of its chartplotter family.
"We listened to mariners asking for affordability and performance
in a feature-packed chartplotter; our answer is the 182C/188C,"
said Gary Kelley, Garmin's director of marketing. "When
combined with our powerful BlueChart® cartography, boaters will
get a colorful, crystal-clear view of their position in any kind
of lighting conditions and the confidence that theyll reach
their destination hassle-free."
Aside from a 16-color TFT display, the GPSMAP 182C/188C will
have the same features as the four-level grayscale GPSMAP 182/188.
The units come equipped with a WAAS-enabled
12 channel GPS receiver for better accuracy; worldwide basemap,
including U.S. tide data; high-resolution five-inch display with
234x320 pixel count; audible alerts; waterproof to IPX-7 standards;
storage of 3,000 waypoints; backlit keypad; and a built-in celestial
table. The GPSMAP 188C Sounder also has a dual-frequency (50/200
kHz), 500-watt sounder, ensuring deepwater performance and superior
target acquisition
Both units are expected to be available in the first quarter
of 2002, with a suggested retail price of $1,142.84 for the GPSMAP
182C and $1,485.70 for the GPSMAP 188C Sounder.
