Garmin Becomes Official Electronics Sponsor for Wal-Mart FLW Tour
OLATHE, Kan. — Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin
Ltd. (Nasdaq: GRMN), today announced that it is expanding its
support of FLW Outdoors by becoming the official electronics
sponsor of the Wal-Mart FLW Tour in 2004 and 2005. Garmin also
is returning as a sponsor of FLW’s five other tournament
trails.
"Garmin has been associated with FLW for five years. We’re
proud to share the stage with the most competitive and lucrative
professional fishing tournament series — the Wal-Mart FLW
Tour," said Gary Kelley, Garmin’s Director of Marketing. "FLW
not only allows Garmin to showcase its marine products, but also
exposes thousands of people to our handheld and automotive GPS
devices through venues like the Family Fun Zone."
Garmin sonar and GPS equipment will be standard on all official
Wal-Mart FLW Tour boats, and Garmin will remain an important
sponsor of the EverStart Series, Bass Fishing League, RCL Walleye
Tour, RCL Walleye League, and Texas Tournament Trail.
Garmin will use the FLW sponsorship in part to expand the Garmin
Grand Giveaway. The program awards an additional $1,000 to any
boat owner who wins a qualifying event using a qualifying Garmin
fishfinder or combination GPS/sounder. In three years, the successful
promotion has awarded nearly $90,000 to winning anglers.
The 2004 Wal-Mart FLW Tour will award a record $6.8 million
to tournament anglers — up more than $1 million from the
previous year. In its 24-year history, FLW Outdoors has become
the only
tournament organization to serve bass and walleye anglers of
all skill levels across the United States.
Garmin offers a wide variety of marine electronics for every
angler, from the tournament pro to the weekend warrior — including
the Fishfinder 320c™, Fishfinder
240™, and the new Fishfinder
120™. In addition, Garmin combines sonar and satellite technology
to create combination GPS/fishfinder units like the GPSMAP® 188c.

Garmin will appear on the "FLW Outdoors" television
program, which is broadcast to 65 million subscribers of the
Outdoor Life Network. Garmin will also receive publicity through
FLW Outdoors Magazine advertisements, prominence on FLWOutdoors.com,
product displays in the Family Fun Zone, signage at tournaments,
angler-award programs, and inclusion in promotional and public
relations materials.
