OLATHE, Kan./DATE/PR Newswire — Garmin International, Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (Nasdaq: GRMN), today announced two additions to its line of chartplotter and combination GPS/sonar units —the GPSMAP 192C and GPSMAP 198C Sounder — both pre-loaded with detailed charts of the United States coastline.

The GPSMAP 192C and GPSMAP 198C Sounder boast built-in, highly-detailed BlueChart® cartography of the coastal United States – including Alaska and Hawaii.  The data provides detailed coastlines, shaded depth contours, navaids, port plans, wrecks, restricted areas, and more.  Boaters can also purchase pre-programmed data cards of other BlueChart regions – like Canada or the Bahamas – or charts of inland U.S. lakes for use in the units.

“The GPSMAP 192C and 198C Sounder are ideal for seafarers who log a lot of miles on their boats, or simply for people who don’t have access to a PC to load individual charts onto their plotters,” said Gary Kelley, Garmin’s director of marketing. “We’ve also updated these chartplotters with a new look and feel that make marine navigation even easier.”

Building on Garmin’s popular and proven 182C and 188C, the GPSMAP 192C and 198C Sounder has a new and brighter display that makes charts incredibly easy to view – even in direct sunlight.  The units also feature an updated faceplate.

Additional features of the GPSMAP 192C and 198C Sounder include:

  • Sunlight readable 16-color, five-inch diagonal TFT display (234 x 320 pixels) with backlight
  • Stores 3,000 waypoints and 50 reversible routes with up to 254 points each
  • 2500-point automatic track log; saves up to 15 tracks to retrace your path
  • Alarms: anchor drag, arrival, off-course, proximity waypoint, clock, and low battery voltage
  • Front-loading data card port for additional BlueChart or inland lake detail
  • Displays positioning data with DSC-equipped VHF radios
  • Built-in tide data and celestial tables
  • Meets rigid IEC 60529 IPX7 submersible standard
  • Bracket or flush mount

In addition to the features mentioned above, the GPSMAP 198C Sounder also has a dual-frequency (50/200 kHz) sonar that outputs 500 watts of power (RMS), or 4,000 watts (peak-to-peak) — for a clear and accurate picture of bottom depth, density, thermoclines, and fish targets.

Both units are expected to be available in the second quarter of 2005. The GPSMAP 192C and GPSMAP 198C Sounder range in price from $943.00 to $1179.00 (MSRP), depending on GPS antenna and sonar configurations.  See www.garmin.com for more details.
