Garmin Introduces High-Performance Black
Box Sonar
OLATHE, Kan. Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin
Ltd. (Nasdaq: GRMN), today unveiled the GSD 20, a remote sonar
device that will add depth-finding capabilities to the companys
new line of fixed-mount GPS/chartplotters.
"Bluewater mariners will enjoy the GSD 20s high-speed
sonar performance when linked up with our new big-screen chartplotters,"
said Gary Kelley, Garmins director of marketing. "We
developed this product to give offshore boaters and anglers faster
ping rates that deliver clearer pictures of detail below the boat
on products like our WAAS-capable, sunlight-viewable color and
monochrome chartplotters."
The GSD 20 is the first GARMIN sonar product to offer increased
transmission rates, painting a more defined picture of bottom
structure and fish arches for mariners. It inherits the qualities
of recently released GARMIN sonars by providing offshore boaters
with 4,000 watts of power peak to peak (500 watts RMS) and dual
frequency (50/200 kHz) for shallow or deep-water performance.
At less than 7"x6"x2" (LxWxH) as a "black
box" solution, the GSD 20 also has future networking possibilities
as the integral sonar source for boats with two compatible GARMIN
chartplotters, including the GPSMAP 182/182C, GPSMAP 232, GPSMAP
2006/2006C, and GPSMAP 2010/2010C.
The GSD 20 will ship standard with a 30-foot cable and mounting
kit at a suggested retail price of $374.99 and will be compatible
with a variety of optional GARMIN transducers. The GSD 20 will
be available for GARMINs GPSMAP 2010/2010C, GPSMAP 2006/2006C,
GPSMAP 232 and GPSMAP 182/182C products in the third quarter of
2002.
