Garmin® Delivers Affordable Jeppesen® Updates
Online for Portables
OLATHE, Kan. Garmin International, a unit of Garmin Ltd.
(Nasdaq: GRMN), announced a new value-added feature for pilots
on its corporate website today at the EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh,
Wisc. The company will soon provide online Jeppesen database updates
specifically for its popular line of aviation portables
the same updates distributed on diskettes, but now available at
a fraction of the cost and with the immediacy of the Internet.
"Pilots flying with Garmin portables are going to enjoy
the convenience and affordability of our new online database update
system," said Gary Kelley, Garmin's director of marketing.
"Whether theyre navigating with a GPS 95XL or a WAAS-capable
GPSMAP® 295, these pilots can
plug their GPS device into a PC, log on to our website and download
the latest Jeppesen update for their portable at less than half
the price of a mail-order datacard."
The price of a one-time update is $35 and a one-year subscription
(13 updates) is $299.
Garmin expects to launch the new Web service by September
2001. Pilots will need a PC interface cable and Internet access
to utilize Garmin's update system. This system does not support
the Garmin GPS 100 and GPS 55 series of aviation products.Garmin
