Garmin® Delivers Affordable Jeppesen® Updates Online for Portables

OLATHE, Kan. — Garmin International, a unit of Garmin Ltd. (Nasdaq: GRMN), announced a new value-added feature for pilots on its corporate website today at the EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisc. The company will soon provide online Jeppesen database updates specifically for its popular line of aviation portables — the same updates distributed on diskettes, but now available at a fraction of the cost and with the immediacy of the Internet.

"Pilots flying with Garmin portables are going to enjoy the convenience and affordability of our new online database update system," said Gary Kelley, Garmin's director of marketing. "Whether they’re navigating with a GPS 95XL or a WAAS-capable GPSMAP® 295, these pilots can plug their GPS device into a PC, log on to our website and download the latest Jeppesen update for their portable at less than half the price of a mail-order datacard."

The price of a one-time update is $35 and a one-year subscription (13 updates) is $299.

Garmin expects to launch the new Web service by September 2001. Pilots will need a PC interface cable and Internet access to utilize Garmin's update system. This system does not support the Garmin GPS 100 and GPS 55 series of aviation products.Garmin International, Inc., is a member of the Garmin Ltd. (Nasdaq: GRMN) group of companies.
