Liberty Aerospace Makes Garmin® Avionics Standard
on XL-2
OLATHE, Kan. Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin
Ltd. (Nasdaq: GRMN) and leading avionics manufacturer for the
general aviation market, announces that its state-of-the-art avionics
suite will be standard equipment on the panel of the new Liberty
Aerospace XL-2.
"The XL-2 is an excellent platform for sport aviators,"
said Gary Kelley, Garmin's director of marketing. "And
with Garmin avionics on board, the XL-2 is optimal for flight
training."
Modeled after Libertys popular Europa kitplane, the XL-2
is planned as an affordable, two-seat IFR private sport and flight
school aircraft. The XL-2 has a 48-inch-wide cockpit, a payload
in excess of 600 lbs., a cruise speed of 138 mph, and a range
of over 500 nm.
Colorado-based Liberty Aerospace joins a long list of aircraft
manufacturers with Garmin as standard equipment, including New
Piper, Raytheon, Mooney, Cirrus, Commander, Waco, Aviat, Tiger,
Adams, Explorer and Eagle.
For a two-seater, the XL-2s panel boasts one of the most
powerful avionics suites in general aviation featuring
GNS 530/GNS 430 GPS/Nav/Com integrated systems, GTX™ 327 digital
transponder and GMA 340 audio panel. The GNS 530/430 provide IFR
pilots with the ultimate in situational awareness by displaying
traffic, lightning and weather information on a five- and four-inch
screen, respectively. Each avionics system can also act as an
MFD, especially when coupled with interfaces like the Ryan TCAD,
BFGoodrich STORMSCOPE and SKYWATCH, and soon-to-be-released
Garmin GDL 49 weather data link transceiver.
The Liberty XL-2 is expected to deliver early in 2002, and a
Garmin-equipped prototype is making its debut at this year's
Sun N Fun Fly-in.
